I've been taking a bit more time from computer/volunteer/whatnot stuff to read and watch movies. It's a nice break, actually.
I read the DaVinci Code a while ago. Interesting book. Speaking as a pagan the theories were intriguing, and I've been doing some suplementary reading on it. It's actually not outside the realm of possibility. I was rather dissappointed that the identity of "The Teacher" was so blatantly obvious from the very start. I prefer a bit more mystery in my mysteries. LOL Then this weekend I watched the movie. First of all, I realize that Ron Howard and Tom Hanks are buds, but really, you shouldn't let that kind of thing get in the way of your art. Tom Hanks was a HORRIBLE choice to play Langdon. He just doesn't have the chops for that kind of intellectual role. Secondly, I HATE the changes they made in the transition from book to script. I don't know why you would want to make a movie from a book like this if you are going to so blatantly slant it toward a more "fundamentalist christian" interpretation. It's ridiculous. If you don't like the book as written, pick another book.
Last weekend I watched Jim Caviezel's version of "The Count of Monte Cristo". I went in with an open mind because I've seen several interpretations of this book. I was plesantly surprised with his range. You can never really judge someone's Dantes until after the escape. Overall a good production. Sort of leaves Richard Chamberlain's in the dust, if you ask me. LOL
One of the things I love about my IPod is that I can put audiobooks on it to listen to on the commute. And if you go here you can get quite a few public domain audiobooks for free. Right now, I have "Dragonsdawn" by Anne McCaffrey, "A Rose for Her Grave" by Ann Rule, and "The Scarlet Pimpernel" by Baroness Orczy.
On a musical note, I'm not sure whether to or not to be disturbed by the fact that I'm actually starting to like Rammstein quite a lot. LOLOL
