On July 13, John lost his job delivering hospice supplies. Just went in that morning and they said "Sorry, you don't work here no more". There was some kind of computer snafu at the DMV and his license had too many points on it when they did his annual check. As I'm sure you can imagine, I was a complete panicked, mostly catatonic mess. I kept having visions of being homeless again. It wasn't a good time. I called the Med Shrink Nurse and she gave me a temporary scrip for Atavan so I could function and be "there" for the kids.
Since then they have been calling him, asking questions, getting information from him that he has cause he was the only competent person there besides the office manager. They keep saying "Boy we really want you back. I'm really going to try and clear this up so we can get you back." ::snort:: Yeah ok. He spent three weeks unemployed! We came VERY close to losing our daycare slot! ::sigh::
Anyways. He went through the Bonney temp agency and they finally found him a job that is temp to hire. He has to work three months at this place under the temp agency then he can go direct hire. It's apparently a really great place to work. I've heard from other people and he has heard from the guys who work there. Most of them have been there for over 10 years and they still really like it. It's a very family friendly place. At the end of the month they're having a Company Picnic for all the regular employees and their families with pony rides and everything. Plus he'll get about $2 more an hour and benefits. We've got a little bit of a hole to dig out of, but we'll recover.
I can't believe school's going to be starting again soon. I just got a letter yesterday from Aidan's teacher about some kind of reading placement type thing we have to go to next week. Not that I'm worried. The child reads at or above grade level easily. It's just that I have to go back to taking time off of work for school meetings. Oh well. LOL I sent an email to Ian's teacher to try and set up a meeting with her before school starts. I went to the school website and checked her out and she seems like a good choice for Ian. She's young, but that's not really a bad thing, especially since there is so much new info on autism. She may be more current than his teacher was last year. I mean, she meant well, but she was just not up to it. AND this year his teacher will be team teaching with another class and I can only imagine that will help.
We've decided that buy or rent, we're moving to a different school district next summer. It may be a little tough at first, but I think it will be for the best in the long run.
So anyways, to keep myself occupied, I've been immersing myself in Harry Potter. I went to see the movie and LOVED it! They left out 2/3 of the book, but really, they kind of had to if they were going to keep the movie under 5 hours. LOL I think that by paring it down to what they did, they were able to focus on the important points, one of which is the "outsider connection" between Harry, Luna, Snape, and Tom Riddle. For the folks who don't read the books, that's a very important piece to emphasize. I also read Book 7, Deathly Hallows. Started it 6:30 Friday night and finished it 8:30 Saturday morning. Amazing talent that woman has, but reading that book was like being drug behind a pickup down 10 miles of bad gravel road.
Ok, so if you haven't read the book and don't want to hear about it stop reading now, otherwise I'm giving my opinion here.
First of all, DAMN that woman is bloodthirsty! She started killing people in the first chapter! I realize this is a war and all and that there will be casualties, but GEEZ! The two characters I don't think I will ever forgive her for killing are Fred Weasly and Snape. First of all, don't just kill one twin. Either they both live or they both die. To just kill one is cruel.
Now, to Snape. My favorite of all Harry Potter characters. I had a sneaking suspicion that there was some kind of connection with him and Lily. I'm a smidge disappointed that his entire motivation for "turning" was to protect her. HOWEVER... even though that was his motivation, he did spend almost 20 years of his life on the razor edge of death working for the Order to defeat Voldemort. He found out that Lily was killed anyway and spent the rest of that time protecting her son. He was then presented with the boy to teach. He had to look every day at a boy who had the face of the man he hated and the eyes of the woman he loved who died to protect the boy. THEN Dumbledore tells him that after all of that, Harry has to die to end the war anyway. And HE has to be the one to tell Harry. THEN he's face to face with Voldemort, having successfully pulled off his double agent role, sees the sign that Dumbledore warned him about, uses all his Occlumency powers to block his urgent thoughts of needing to find the boy and give him the message. He keeps asking Voldemort, "Let me find the boy and bring him to you". But Voldemort, being the idiot that he is, assumes that in order for his stolen wand to work he has to kill Snape, so he DOES! And not even in an honorable way, he doesn't even kill him himself, he sicks his snake on him. THEN when Voldemort leaves him bleeding on the floor of the Shreiking Shack to die and Harry finds him, Snape's last conscious act is to gather the thoughts and images needed together to give to Harry. Ensuring in his mind that Harry will die. So after all of his hard work, dedication and mortal peril to keep the boy alive for Lily, he dies not only thinking he failed, but that he is the one who passed on the means of the boy's death.
If there is a more ill-used and abused character in literary history, I'd love to hear about it. Unforgivable. I don't care if she fashioned Snape after a teacher she had that she hated. She didn't need to treat him like this. The only redeeming things she did, were confirm his innocense in killing Dumbledore, and having Harry name one of his sons after him and telling the boy that Snape was probably the bravest man he ever knew.
DAMN you JK Rowlings!!!!!
This is a fan video my friend Terri Lynn sent a link to and I just love it. It's a wonderful tribute to Snape and Lily.
So anyway, I'm feeling a bit better now, on a more even keel, so I will probably post more regularly again. I try not to get on here when I'm in the middle of an emotional crisis. Rather too disturbing for everyone involved. LOL
