This was written my sophomore year of high school. I know this because that is when I discovered Duran Duran and this little peice of fluff makes reference to them. Hee hee.

Eyes

by Kimber

"How much longer do I have to sit here, Jen?" Kara said. She was stirring the ice in her third glass of Coke and looking at her watch. "We've been here for two hours and no one has asked either of us to dance. I say we go home."

"Oh come on Kara," Jen was saying, while craneing her neck to see the people on the dance floor. "Loosen up and have some fun. Don't you just love the band? I would die to meet that keyboard player, he's so cute!"

Exasperated, Kara sat back in the large chair and sipped the watered-down drink. Slowly, her mind began to wander and soon Jen could no longer be heard. As her eyes roamed over the crowded, dimly lit dance club, she spotted a guy at the bar on the far side of the floor.

He wasn't a spectacular looking guy, he was no John Taylor, but he was still attractive. He had dark hair that came down to his collar in the back and over his eyes in the front. He was wearing a black jacket over a white concert T-shirt, blue jeans and white jazz shoes. From the fit of the clothes, Kara could tell that his body was built just right, not to buff but not to scrawny either.

She didn't realize that she was staring until he looked up and caught her eyes. Kara was immediately lost in the green pools that met her gaze. She tried to avert her eyes, to look at her drink, or Jen, anywhere to break the hold his eyes had on her but she couldn't.

He began to move away from the bar, still looking at her. Without fully realizing what she was doing, Kara began to rise from her chair. She barely noticed Jen calling her name as she crossed to the center of the floor. As she felt his arms go around her waist, she knew she was in trouble, and she really didn't care.
