Honestly, it's been such a full couple of weeks, I'm at a loss to pick from the plethora.
Firstly, aside from my personal opinion that his brother makes the best damned salsa I've ever tasted in my entire life, I really have no opinion on Don Imus. Never listened to him or watched his show. Didn't know about the ranch for cancer kids until hubby told me when the whole thing blew up. Yes, I think what he said was reprehensible. And if he says that kind of thing on a regular basis then I'm WICKED glad I never listened to him or watched his show. It was a horrible, racist, sexist remark. However, this is not the first time any public figure has said something like this. The first thing that occurred to me was Howard Stern. The man is a pig and people LOVE it! They pay him MILLIONS of dollars to be on satellite radio and degrade women. Al Sharpton has nothing good to say about Jewish people and he's a leader in his community. Every other rap song ever made degrades and objectifies women. But that's the first amendment for ya.
My confusion comes in when I see all these representatives of the black community saying that the rappers doing it is ok because they're black. WOMEN in the black community are saying it's ok that they do this because they're black. WHY would any woman think it's ok for ANYONE to call women "ho"s. Or bitches. Or objectify them to the point that they're just animated blow-up dolls. To quote my man Jim Brass when he was talking to his fallen daughter

To quote another guy I actually respect, even though he has made an appearance on the xtian tv network ::shudder:: Dr. Phil...

If you say it's ok for these guys to call women hos and bitches then you are telling them it's ok for them to treat you like a ho. And hey, if that's what floats your boat then by all means. I, personally, require people to at the very least treat me with respect. I don't require that they like me or even give a crap about me. I don't listen to rap music, watch rap videos, movies involving that community because I don't think it's ok. I think they are exactly the same as Don Imus and it don't care what color they are it's still wrong.
Secondly, I was flipping past the Glen Beck show a couple hours ago. If that man wasn't such a knucklehead, I might actually like him. Why oh why oh why, every time someone takes a gun and goes out and blows away a couple dozen people do they drag Ted Nugent out of mothballs to extol the glories of guns.
Yes, the guy was mentally ill. Yes, he should have been hospitalized and medicated years ago. But if he had written his wacked out little manifesto and went on a rampage with a bow and arrow or a bowie knife, 33 people wouldn't be dead. How many people have to die, how much aggrandizement do we have to allow these wackjobs to aspire to before we realize that PEOPLE KILL LOTS MORE PEOPLE WITH GUNS!
It's all about the "sex appeal" of guns. It's not that I don't see it or understand it. The first time I watched "The Matrix" I was both shocked and appalled at myself for thinking that the W Brothers had made mass murder and lots of shooting look "beautiful". But look at the picture this guy sent to NBC. Look at the pictures and videos that the Columbine kids made of themselves. They are making themselves look bigger than life, more powerful by accessorizing themselves with guns! They sit around and dream about killing as many people as possible in a personal way that will make them look like a bad ass mutha fucka and the best way to do that is with guns! They don't have these masturbatory fantasies about knives, swords, bows and arrows or baseball bats. It's GUNS!
And as long as there are guns available to anyone and everyone this kind of thing will continue to happen. This guy bought these guns completely legally. The absolute letter of the law was followed every step of the way when he bought these guns. Gun laws are less than USELESS and until people realize that and BAN THE FUCKIN GUNS COMPLETELY it will never stop. It will only get worse. Columbine was 13. Va Tech was 33. What's the magic number?
Is your right to own a gun more important that your fellow human beings right to LIVE????? Seriously, get a different god damned hobby.
