A Brady Center Exclusive Report: No Gun Left Behind
Following the horrible massacre at Virginia Tech, the gun lobby's unbelievable response has been to put more guns on campus. They actually want to arm students and teachers, an act that they think will prevent more shootings.
The Brady Center has compiled a new report, No Gun Left Behind: The Gun Lobby's Campaign to Push Guns Into Colleges and Schools, which blows the whistle on the gun lobby's strategy and explains how, far from saving lives, it would dramatically increase gun violence risks to college students and trample on academic freedom. Adding guns into that volatile mix can make things worse.
The Brady Campaign spents lots of money creating that document. Nice artwork, very heartfelt and really puts some fear into the reader.
However it's 90% propaganda.
It amused me how it stated that the first thing the gun lobby did was call for guns in schools. That's actually incorrect. The Anti-Gun lobby immediately the same day was on the news calling for more gun control laws. In contrast the NRA only issued statements of remorse for the families and said nothing about guns, gun control, or 2A rights.
Do I want a drunk on campus with a gun? NO. Do I want a responsible adult on campus with a gun? YES.
Another issue in the pamphlet is that the NRA fully supports the Brady Background Checks and recently put a lot of money and support to the Brady Group to improve the background checks (NICS -- National Instant Backgroun Check System). The system is flawed right now. As are most government ran systems. You think DMV keeps perfect records on everything? Nope. It's a growing and imperfect system that both sides of the issue are working to fix and make better.
See that's the difference between us and you. We don't want ANYBODY on campus with guns. Hell I don't want anybody on the whole PLANET to have guns.
Of course the NRA made lip servive to the survivors/families the gun owners killed before they started trying to put guns in the school. Good PROPOGANDA that way.
